MOT advisory explained
“Coil spring corroded”
Recorded on 1,703 of the 25,257 cars checked on this site. It was an advisory 99.4% of the time.
What it means
This note means the tester saw rust on a coil spring that had not cracked or broken.
It is an advisory, which does not fail the car by itself. A spring found fractured or broken is a failure.

What to check before you buy
- Check the later MOT tests for 'coil spring fractured or broken' on the same corner.
- Look at the springs with a torch, especially the bottom coils where they sit in their seats, for flaking rust.
- Ask whether any springs have been replaced since the advisory, and for the invoice.
- Check that the car sits level from side to side on flat ground.
