1. Who we are and how these Terms work
The Service is operated by Chi Yung Lee, a sole trader trading as AI Plate Checker (“we”, “us”, “our”).
- Address: 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom
- Email: feedback@aiplatechecker.co.uk
By using the Service you agree to these Terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data and forms part of these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
If you are buying as a consumer, nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under UK consumer law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Where these Terms and your statutory rights conflict, your statutory rights win.
2. The Service
AI Plate Checker lets you look up a UK vehicle by its registration number and see information about it. The Service has two parts:
- Free checks — MOT history, tax and MOT status, ULEZ compliance, an AI-generated condition score, problems you may need to fix with an estimate of likely repair costs, an indicative market price where available, and a Saved Cars list. Free checks are provided at no charge and without any commitment from you or us.
- Paid full history reports — a one-off purchase that adds further checks such as outstanding finance, insurance write-off, stolen and scrapped markers, mileage discrepancy analysis, keeper, plate and colour history, import/export status, salvage auction and taxi/private-hire records, running-cost detail, and a fuller AI verdict. The exact contents are listed on the Service before you pay.
We may change, add to or withdraw any part of the Service at any time. If you have already paid for a report, the report you bought is not affected.
3. Accuracy of information — no guarantee
The information on the Service comes from official sources (including the DVLA and DVSA) and from licensed third-party vehicle-data providers. We present it as we receive it and take reasonable care in doing so. However:
- We do not guarantee that any information is accurate, complete, current or free of errors. Source records can be missing, delayed, mis-keyed at source, or changed after we retrieve them.
- We do not offer any data guarantee, compensation scheme or insurance in relation to the accuracy of any check or report.
- A “clear” result means only that the sources we checked returned no adverse record at the time of the check. It does not mean that no such record exists.
- The Service is not a substitute for a physical inspection, a test drive, a professional mechanical examination, or checking the V5C logbook, service history and the seller’s identity yourself.
Nothing on the Service is financial, legal or professional advice. Any decision to buy, sell, keep, insure, finance or drive a vehicle is yours alone.
4. AI-generated content
Condition scores, verdicts, repair-cost estimates, negotiation suggestions and similar content are generated automatically by software, including large language models. They are opinions produced from the data available, not statements of fact, and they can be wrong. Treat them as a starting point for your own checks, not as a conclusion.
5. Paid reports: price, payment and VAT
- You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a report. By buying a report you confirm that you are.
- The price of a full history report is shown on the Service before you pay and is currently £9.99. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay.
- Prices are in pounds sterling. We are not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is added.
- Payment is taken by our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- A contract for a report is formed when we take payment and start generating it. We may decline or cancel an order — for example if payment fails, the registration is invalid, or we suspect misuse — and if we do so we will refund anything you have paid for that order.
6. Delivery, access period and your right to cancel
A full history report is digital content. It is generated and made available to you immediately after payment.
Your 14-day right to cancel. Consumers normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase made online. Because a report is delivered straight away, by buying a report you request immediate delivery and acknowledge that once the report is delivered you lose the 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you do not want immediate delivery on that basis, please do not buy the report.
Access period. Your report stays available to you on the Service for 60 days from purchase. This period is shown before you pay. After 60 days the report expires and a new report would need to be purchased to obtain current data. We recommend downloading or saving a copy of your report while it is available.
Vehicle records change over time. A report is accurate only as of the time it was generated; we do not update it afterwards.
7. Refunds and problems with a report
Because reports are delivered immediately and the right to cancel is given up at purchase, reports are generally non-refundable once delivered.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If you believe a report does not meet that standard — for example, it failed to generate, is unreadable, or returned no data at all for a valid registration — email feedback@aiplatechecker.co.uk within 30 days of purchase with the registration and your order details. We will look into it and, where a fault is confirmed, repair or replace the report or give you a refund.
A report is not faulty simply because a source record turns out to be incomplete or incorrect, because the AI content expresses an opinion you disagree with, or because the vehicle later develops a problem the report did not predict.
8. Acceptable use
You may use the Service for your own personal use or for the legitimate purposes of your own business. You must not:
- use automated tools (bots, scrapers, scripts) to access the Service, or run bulk or systematic lookups;
- copy, extract, republish, sell or otherwise redistribute data obtained from the Service;
- use the Service to identify, locate, harass or contact any person, or otherwise in breach of anyone’s privacy or rights;
- use the Service in any way that breaches the DVLA’s or DVSA’s terms of use for their data, or any applicable law;
- attempt to bypass any paywall, security measure or usage limit, or interfere with the Service’s operation.
9. Intellectual property
The Service, its software, design, branding, text, analysis and reports belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual-property law. You may use a report you have purchased for your own purposes, including sharing it with a co-buyer or mechanic, but you may not reproduce, publish or sell it. Public sector information is used under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
10. Third-party data and no affiliation
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the DVLA, the DVSA, HM Government, or any vehicle manufacturer, insurer or finance company. Third-party data is supplied to us under licence and remains subject to the terms of those sources. We are not responsible for the content or availability of third-party websites we link to.
11. Our liability to you
What we do not exclude. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Free checks. Free checks are provided as a free service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, a free check.
Paid reports. If we fail to comply with these Terms, we are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable, and we are not liable for:
- any loss arising from a decision to buy, sell, keep, insure, finance or drive a vehicle, including the purchase price, repair costs, depreciation, finance liabilities or costs of travel to view a vehicle;
- inaccuracies, omissions or delays in data supplied to us by official or third-party sources;
- loss of profit, business, contracts or goodwill, or any business loss, where you are using the Service in the course of a business;
- any indirect or consequential loss.
Subject to the paragraph headed “What we do not exclude”, our total liability to you in connection with any report is limited to the price you paid for that report.
12. Suspending or ending access
We may suspend or block your access to the Service, without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, are using the Service abusively, or are causing harm to the Service or to others. Where you have paid for a report and have not breached these Terms, we will make the report available for the remainder of its access period or refund it.
13. Events outside our control
We are not responsible for any delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, including outages of official data sources, third-party providers, hosting or payment services, or interruptions to the internet.
14. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version published on this page, with its “Last updated” date, is the version that applies. If we make a change that materially affects your rights, we will highlight it on the Service. Changes do not apply retrospectively to a report you have already bought.
15. Governing law and where to bring a claim
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also rely on the mandatory consumer-protection rules of, and bring proceedings in, the courts of the country where you live. Otherwise the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
16. Other important terms
- If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
- If we do not enforce a right under these Terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- These Terms are between you and us. No one else has any rights under them.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to another business; we will tell you if we do, and your rights will not be affected.
17. Contact and complaints
If you have a question or complaint about the Service or these Terms, email feedback@aiplatechecker.co.uk or write to AI Plate Checker, 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom. We aim to reply within 5 working days.
