What it means

The brake discs are the metal rotors the pads grip. This note means the tester saw a disc with a worn, rust-pitted or grooved surface that was still strong enough to do its job.

It is an advisory. A disc that is significantly worn or seriously weakened is recorded as a failure.

What to check before you buy

  • Look at the face of each disc through the wheel. A raised lip at the outer edge, deep grooves or heavy rust pitting are easy to see.
  • Ask for an invoice showing discs and pads replaced after the advisory.
  • On a test drive, brake firmly from speed and feel for vibration through the pedal or the steering wheel.
  • Check the later MOT tests for the same note on the same axle.
